10 years, what have I learnt?

10 years? I have a confession, it was just over 11 years ago that I photographed my first wedding, but I took a year out in the middle, so I’ve been photographing weddings for ten years.

In that time, I’ve grown so much as a person and as a photographer. All the incredible couples I’ve met and photographed that have got me to this point have truly shaped the person I am today and I couldn’t be more grateful to every single one of them.

So, what have I learnt?

  • I absolutely love wedding photography, like, so much.

  • Every human being is unique and one size does not fit all. This is a crucial ingredient to becoming a great wedding photographer. Understanding people and how to get the best for them and from them.

  • Love comes in all shapes and sizes and they’re all beautiful.

  • If you can, Mr & Mrs is a LOT of fun at a wedding, really brings out the joy and laughter!

  • Every wedding is unique. I have photographed weddings at the same venue that have been completely different. It’s more about the people than the décor. Though the décor obviously helps personify it.

  • Small, medium and large weddings all have their own charms. Do what’s right for you and your day, I promise you, they’re all incredible.

  • Taking risks get’s the best photos, trust me, I’ve climbed kids slides and risked all by standing on wobbly chairs (I’m insured, don’t worry!) to get the shot!

  • Being on your feet for 12 hours is exhausting but well worth it.

  • When all is said and done, it’s the photos people have to remember their day. Make sure you pick someone who LOVES their job like I do, to photograph your day.

  • Lastly, I’ve learnt that I hope to be doing this for another 10 years and beyond. It’s a privilege to be able to document some of the biggest days of peoples lives. I still very much get goosebumps and plenty of excitement on a wedding day!

If you’re getting married or know someone that’s looking to tie the knot, please don’t hesitate to get in touch so we can create incredible memories and freeze them to enjoy for ever.
